You say your shopping list is a mile long? You’re short on time – and just a big wary of shopping in cyberspace?
Never fear! The Internet is the perfect solution for shopping emergencies. And with the holiday shopping season nearly upon us, it’s a great time for a refresher course in online shopping safety. Shopping online is no more dangerous than shopping at the local mall, if you know what you’re doing – and it’s a lot easier to find a parking space!
The biggest worry about shopping online is fear that your credit card information will be lost or stolen. According to a June 2007 survey by J.C. Williams Group for MODASolutions, 80 percent of respondents indicated that the availability of “a safe and secure online payment option” was the most important factor when shopping online.
1.Learn to identify a secure website transaction.
Reputable online merchants use payment processing systems that automatically encrypt confidential data such as credit card numbers, making such information virtually impossible to steal. Fortunately, when you’re shopping online, it’s easy to tell whether or not your particular transaction is being processed securely
Here’s how.
Once you get ready to check out, two things should happen. The first is that the beginning of the website’s Internet address (URL) should change from http:// to https://. That “s” indicates that this section of the website is secure. (Don’t worry if you don’t see the “s” while you’re still shopping and adding items to your online shopping cart. The transaction doesn’t need to be secured until you’re getting ready to check out and enter payment and personal information.)
You should also see a padlock image on the right side of the Internet Address bar if you’re using Internet Explorer.
2.Shop from reputable merchants.
Knowing that a transaction is secure is one thing; knowing that the site’s owners can be trusted is something else entirely. Choosing when to trust a website depends in part on who publishes the website, what information they want, and what you want from the site.
Look for well-known and respected online retailers such as Amazon.com or online versions of companies you already know and trust, such as JCPenney.com or OfficeDepot.com. Websites that are certified by Internet trust organizations such as TRUSTe, BBB Online and WebTrust are preferable, as well, since they promise to protect your privacy and not to use information in certain ways without your permission.
Be wary of sites that ask for personal information such as credit card numbers or bank information before they logically need it, and of sites that do not reveal phone numbers, email addresses or other ways to reach them for customer support.
3.Use a credit card for online shopping.
A credit card is much safer than a debit card when shopping online, since you’re protected by provisions of the Fair Credit Billing Act (if you’re a U.S. consumer) and since you can also dispute charges with the credit card company if you suspect a fraudulent transaction. For extra peace of mind, consider using a separate credit card for online shopping and monitor it carefully.
4.Don’t save credit card numbers or personal information in any online store account.
Many online vendors ask you to create accounts so that it’s easier for them to notify you of special offers. That’s fine, if you’re interested, but resist the lure of “convenience” by having them save your credit card information as well. The fewer people who have access to such confidential information, the better.
5.Use a separate email address.
Guard your privacy by using a separate, free email account for your online activity. If you’re inundated with email or spammers get a hold of your email address, it’s easy to discard the “freebie” email address and get a new one.
6.Keep all receipts.
When you shop online, you’ll receive order confirmation messages and receipts via email. Double-check them for accuracy, and keep them – in a separate folder in your Inbox, perhaps – until you’re certain that the order was processed correctly and that you will not need to return anything.
7.Trust your instincts.
If you’re not sure of a website – if something strikes you as too good to be true, if the site seems unprofessional or downright pushy – just don’t order from that merchant. With the millions of retailers available online, there’s sure to be someone more reputable who has what you’d like to order – and they’re only a click away!
No one can guarantee that every Internet shopping transaction will be problem-free, but adopting the previous commonsense strategies will make it highly unlikely that you’ll be the victim of cyber fraud.

Online shopping emerged a decade ago and the past five years has seen tremendous growth in this medium. Big brands have tapped into this medium effectively and even small businesses are exploring the benefits. Online shopping serves the consumers and also the business owners alike. Shoppers find it easy to shop anytime they want. They could choose over array of options available and even compare prices from other online sellers at the same time. Customers could also get good deals from different sellers and prefer their mode of payment.

Business owners on the other hand enjoy the lowered expenditure of hoarding the products. Online shopping product display is done through images, links, attachments and information about the product. Thus the overhead of storing the product is not required and this benefit can be passed on to the customers by giving them better deals and offers. This in turn adds to the popularity of the seller and increases his customer base. If the seller is ready to export his product his foot hold could reach global. Books are the prime example of having boundary less consumer base. Publications and book sellers have reached far and wide in satiating the hunger of books all over. Fragrances are also transnational in nature. A retailer having an enormous collection of perfumes can sell it round the world only by taking his business online.

Sellers can provide personalized attention to each customer. They can entertain each of their buyers by providing the right details and guidelines for buying which is always not possible in a real store because of many reasons like lack of manpower, lack of specialized staff etc. Such personalized acceptance of a customer helps to build faith in him and boast a long-term relationship with the seller. Such personalization builds goodwill and trust in the sellers.

Business owners can run their business 24/7 increasing their reach by suiting all kinds of customers through their online shopping stores. Business owners need not rent space or make purchases for selling their products. They can purchases at the time of orders thus cutting on their initial investments. The right delivery of goods on time would enable them to be trust worthy and get loyal customers. Payments can be received through online banking, credit/debit cards, or online payment portals. Each time the payment is made first which ensures a sure delivery and the product can be dispatched. Even ‘cash on delivery’ could be opted for sellers seeking payments in cash but it runs the risk of getting a fake order which adds to the delivery costs and purchase made. Also if the person isn’t available at the time of delivery it adds onto the delivering expenditure. Business owners can highly benefit from taking their business online as the opportunities are mounting and the possibilities are endless.

More and more people are getting used to shopping online. It gives you a different shopping experience from the traditional one because it is not a face-to-face shopping. At the same time, there are more internet traps which aim at your credit cards. How to protect your online shopping with no fraud? Four tips are suggested for your safe online shopping. Contact InformationClear contact information is a must-have for any serious online business. After you land on a website for the first time, contact information is one of the most important check points. Make sure you have direct contact information before you make any purchase. The contact information includes phone number and address, not email contact form only. Most of people think the toll free number is much better than the local number because it is free and shows the strength of a company. However, the fact is that any one can apply for a toll free number and people can take advantage of it to add more attraction for a trap. If you watch Oprah’s show, there is a case for the fraud with a toll free number. The toll free is good for a customer service but it doesn’t mean everything. If there is a local phone number, at least you can check whether the local area number matches with the published address. Anyway, you are really on your own if there is no contact information. HTTPS connectionMost of online users know what HTTPS means but how many of you check this when you are shopping online. HTTPS is Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. The HTTPS connections are often used for payment transactions on the web and for sensitive information transmission. If you are on the formal online shopping sites, your connection will be changed from http to https when you click to check out. If no https connection, all your registration information and banking information are transparent for anyone on the internet. After you click the check out button, make sure your url connection changes to https connection from normal http connection. Payment ResolutionPay attention to the payment system they use. PayPal and Authorize are popular online payment system. The reason is that people trust them to make a transaction and protect their banking information at the same time. However, you should be alert if the payment system is the one you have never heard. Your credit card information or banking information may not be protected in a secure system.Downloadable ProductsDownloadable products are the best suitable ones for online shopping. First, make sure if it is the right one you want to purchase. Most of those products are non-refundable so read the policy carefully. Even through PayPal, you may not get your money back if not what you really want. Second, make sure that they have a good customer service including phone contact information. If only an email contact form, you could find no response after the sale. Third, always remember that too good to be true. Usually you will find a nice software or tool with long page testimonials. The best thing is only a few bucks or something like that. If you really get what you need, that is good. However, there is a possibility that you lose that small amount of money with nothing or even worse your credit card information. Online shopping is absolutely a prospective business. Those above suggestions would help you enjoy the fantastic online shopping experience.

The marketing of information products online is one of the most lucrative areas of internet markeing and has blossomed in the last 5 years. There appears to be a very definite set of strategies employed by those successful in this area.
In the past marketers have been able to identify their competitors and plan their strategies accordingly, but in the fast-paced online marketing environment, there is a real sense of urgency with any product launch.
Piracy is perhaps the biggest problem that information product marketers face, and is the one that is often quoted as being the main obstacle to selling digitally delivered information products to China. There is a perception that whatever product is sold there will be copied, rebranded, and resold in no time.
But realistically, doesn’t this happen now anyway – whatever country you are selling to? Sure, there are copyright laws in place in most countries, but who among us has the financial capabilities to pursue copyright infringers through the courts, sometimes international courts? The Microsofts, Googles and IBM may be able to do this, but the average marketer – no way.
So the strategy remains the same whether you are selling to China or to the US, UK or Australia. Make a great information product, pre-sell it, create some real interest from qualified prospects, and promote it well through forums, blogs, article marketing. Keep up the pace and you WILL benefit. If your product is copied – do what you can to stop it, but maintaining your credibility as the developer/author is sometimes the best you can do. Get hit, make a hit, and then plateau – seems to be the way it goes.
Now having addressed the piracy issue, let’s ignore the naysayers for a while, and take a closer look at the OPPORTUNITIES in China.
The state network information center of China is the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC)and in July 2008 it released a “Statistical Survey Report on the Internet Development in China”. Here are some of the main points in this big report that will be of particular interest to the marketers of information products.
253 million Internet users
That’s two hundred and fifty three MILLION internet users in China! This puts China clearly in first place for internet use worldwide. That figure is an increase of 91 million from June 2007 (43 million of this in the six months to June 2008).
84.7% of users connect via Broadband
At the end of 2007 this equated to 168 million, the figure has increased to 214 million. There is a massive 84.7 million individual computers connecting to the internet from homes (dispelling the myth that most internet access in China is via internet cafes).
73.05 million access the internet via mobile phones
Though certainly not their main means of internet access, this is a growing trend. Demographics? 86% of these people are under 30 years of age and 39.7% are students.
Penetration rate of 19.1%
On a population figure of 1.325 billion, this a LOT of people. Sure, when compared to neighboring countries (Japan 68.4%, and South Korea 71.2%), 19.While 1% doesn’t sound a lot, but the current growth rates in China indicate that it will reach the world average of 21.1% by the end of 2008.
158 million registered IPv4IP addresses

Online payment is seeking to “launch abroad” to expand external markets. Reporter yesterday learned that the most frequently used online payment Alipay now opened VISA card payment business in China Taiwan region. Business users in Taiwan using credit card with the VISA logo can pay directly through the Alipay to shop in Taobao.com online shop. In addition, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China has recently released an online offshore VISA card remittance service.

18 foreign banks join

Reportedly, Alipay has opened VISA card payment services in Hong Kong, China. At present, 11 supporting Alipay VISA card payment Taiwan’s regional banks, including Chinatrust Commercial Bank, coupling with the 7 Hong Kong banks, and the total number of foreign banks supporting Alipay VISA card payment have reached 18.

“Although the Alipay has been clearly dominant domestically that accounted for about half of the third party payment market share, Alipay’s greater ambition is to compete with the status of an international boss.” As a peer of Taobao.com basing on oversea market, Epathchina.com said, currently, Alipay has broken 200 million users, day trading reached 4 million, but the short slab is that Alipay day trading amounted to 700 million Yuan whose size is less than PayPal.

ICBC’s cross-border remittance easier

The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China’s personal web bank has also launched the first brand-new offshore VISA card remittance service. Customers only need to know the recipient’s VISA card number, name and other basic information, and they can apply for cross-border remittances of U.S. dollars, euro, British pound, Japanese yen and other 13 major currencies, which is not only easy to operate and receive fast with cheaper charge for remittance than similar services. At present, the business temporarily only available in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen pilot launches. Introducing this service is conducive to domestic buyers to do small online shopping overseas.

Attract overseas buyers to purchase

Erenow, Alipay cooperated with Bank of China; AliPay would help domestic users resolve the funds flow problem of domestic users on cross-border online transactions. At present, the service supports the dollar, euro, yen and other 12 major currencies, covering hundreds of overseas websites in Hong Kong and Taiwan, Japan and South Korea, occident countries these dozens of countries and regions.

Alipay president Shao Xiaofeng, said e-commerce must be global, not only for Chinese buyers paying out, but also allow foreign buyers to buy in. “Now, the idea of Alipay was to use Taobao.com platform to attract overseas buyers.”

Although it is good strategy and opportunity, as a peer competitor, epathchina.com pointed out that the fake problem has always plagued Taobao.com, which is especially valued for overseas buyers. Whether Taobao.com does big or does regular, or Alipay strives for overseas market development, eliminate bad credit is the primary problem sellers should resolve.
